“We know through our research that there are certain music therapy techniques that work to help people reduce pain and anxiety”

Ray Leone, MMT, Head of Our Medical Team

We work with people across the life span, from premature infants to people recovering from surgery to end-of-life care. Patients in the hospital may benefit from music therapy to alleviate pain, anxiety or depression, provide gentle stimulation for loss of consciousness and enhance coping, communication and quality of life.

The Brain Choir

In addition to our work in the hospital, A Place To Be’s partnership with INOVA has led to the creation of the Stroke Comeback Choir.  We currently have two active choirs, each working with a group of stroke survivors.  Through the use of music and singing, they work through things like aphasia and speech.  The stroke choir has performed at the Kennedy Center, as well as with renowned opera singer Renée Fleming.
