WINCHESTER — If any good could come from the very worst thing a mother could imagine, Ann-Charlotte Robinson meant to find it.

“A Will To Survive,” a stage play, is the result. Through spoken word and song, it memorializes Will Robinson, Charlotte’s son, who died by suicide in 2016. The piece, co-written by 1994 Shenandoah University music theater graduate Tom Sweitzer, was first staged before 40,000 students during a tour of Loudoun County schools.

After that, it was converted to a film, “A Mother’s Will,” produced and edited by Steve Nerangis of Winchester.

The film, currently a short documentary, has been entered in worldwide competition and has been accepted for screening at festivals in the U.S. and overseas. Its local premiere screening will be at Alamo Cinema and Drafthouse in Kernstown at 11 a.m. Sept 29.
