Loudoun Times-Mirror: A Place to Be performers let Leesburg students know ‘it’s OK to feel’

John W. Tolbert Jr. Elementary School in Leesburg was the “place to be” March 20, when five members of the local therapeutic arts organization A Place to Be communicated the basic idea “it’s OK to feel” through the performance of their song, “You gotta feel.”

The writers of the song, Skylar Freeman and Michael Camarillo, graduated from Shenandoah University with a degree in music therapy, and they now devote their time to healing people with disabilities, medical problems and mental health struggles. They help clients – and now students – face and overcome life’s challenges using music therapy and expressive arts therapy.

Along with Freeman and Camarillo on Wednesday were Sierra Roberts, who is the production coordinator filling in for cast member Blake O’ Brien, and an intern Tim Cole, a violinist who hopes to join the team of therapists one day.
