About

A Place To Be was founded in 2010 by Tom Sweitzer and Kim Tapper. Our mission is to create community, belonging, and hope through music therapy, performance, and the expressive arts.

Over the years, children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities have entered our doors, bringing with them unique perspectives and creative abilities, and a desire to be part of a community. They have made A Place To Be what it is today.  Here we strive for a world where everyone is accepted for their humanity, not solely by their challenge.

In Memoriam

Jack Price was a long time member of the A Place To Be community. An actor, singing, and advocate, Jack Price toured with our Same Sky shows for years, spreading a message of inclusion and acceptance to thousands of students throughout Virginia.

Magalen O Bryant (Maggie) left us in 2021. She was an international philanthropist from her hometown in Middleburg, Virginia to Cape Town, South Africa. Maggie also loved music. She was influential as a friend and donor to A Place To Be since its inception in 2010. She also hosted many performances and celebrations for the families of A Place To Be. Her favorite moments were sitting in an audience, watching and hearing a child sing with all their heart. She will be missed.
