A Place To Be (APTB), a nationally recognized, award-winning, 501c3 nonprofit organization, is looking for a highly qualified, passionate Full Time, Board Certified Music Therapist to join our dynamic team. An A Place To Be staff member is an active believer in our mission of creating community, belonging, and hope through music therapy, performance, and the expressive arts. APTB works with diverse populations, Dx, and ages. The MT-BC will primarily be responsible for providing individual and group music therapy sessions, ensuring that every participant receives exceptional care in alignment with the mission and vision of A Place To Be.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties

  • Serve as a music therapist for individual client sessions, contracts, and/or groups.
  • Complete all notes and required reports.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and a commitment to top quality in all work produced.
  • Collaborate on intra/interdisciplinary teams in service of clients, families, and the mission.

Additional Qualities or Duties

  • Demonstrate understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and community-based approaches and an acceptance of different religious and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, openness to feedback, ethical judgment, resourcefulness, kindness, and presence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and practice of HIPAA compliance.
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, and organization events as requested.
  • Create a positive atmosphere and collaborate successfully with others.
  • Support staff in a climate of care and respect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MT-BC Board Certification in good standing, (bilingual/Spanish strongly considered). MT must also get Licensed in VA but do not need to have that already to apply.
  • This position is open to experienced clinicians as well as entry level, including those eligible to sit for their CBMT exam.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, be able to lift 40lbs (basic equipment), and have mobility to serve clients in multiple ways (crouching, floor-time, etc.)

  • This salaried, exempt, position starts at $47,500 (non-MT-BC candidates who are sitting for the boards); $55k (undergraduate degree + MT-BC); $60k (master’s degree + MT-BC). Possible relocation stipend available.
  • Work occurs primarily in Leesburg, VA with some limited placements at contracts close by.
    • Caseloads do not exceed 25 sessions/groups/contracts (total) hours per week
    • Ongoing individual supervision with clinical manager
    • Weekly team meeting with all therapists and clinical manager
    • Ongoing full staff meetings for collaboration, education, and connection
    • Remaining hours for planning, note taking, special events, collaboration, supervising interns (if qualified)
