Jeremy Horwitz started at A Place To Be when he was 15 years old, where he loved participating in music therapy sessions, camps, plays, and especially singing with friends. Over the years, he performed in The Same Sky Project, Pathfinders, holiday recitals, and summer camps, creating many lasting memories along the way. He still volunteers weekly for the Brain Injury choir which started at APTB.
Now 26, Jeremy works at Jake’s Ice Cream, where he works the cash register, helps customers and makes waffle cones. Best of all, he really likes that after each shift, he gets to make himself a Sundae or a shake.
Outside of work, he loves music, building with Legos, playing all sorts of games, and spending time with friends. He plays 4 instruments and practices them all daily. He loves playing all kinds of music including classical, jazz, rock, pop and folk music. This past year he played in a jazz group and was invited to play his saxophone with a local community orchestra. He has written over 100 songs. Music is his passion and it has helped him communicate his emotions. And in addition to writing and playing music, he illustrates books with song lyrics.
He has also created a freeform lego village with apartment buildings, restaurants, and an automotive repair shop: nearly 200 mini figures live in the village – most with names and jobs and all with happy faces.
Jeremy is a major contributor to helping his household run by helping around the house and in the garden, walking and playing with his dogs. He has even learned to drive a pontoon boat.
Jeremy is looking forward to many traditions and celebrations ahead; he has traditions for every month, for favorite musicians, and for friends and family that have passed: making baby back ribs for Labor Day, carving a pumpkin in the fall, celebrating his October birthday, and enjoying ZooLights in December. With his love of music, connection, and tradition, Jeremy continues to bring joy to the people around him.
Jeremy’s goal for the future is to become an orchestra conductor. His philosophy of life is to be kind and to wake up happy and go to bed happy every day. He wishes that for everyone.
